1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the inwardly iOS application (the "App") operated by inwardly ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service
inwardly is a private journaling application for iOS that uses AI to help you understand patterns in your thoughts and emotions over time. The App offers:
Free tier: Up to 3 journal entries per week, basic mood check-in, static daily prompts, and streak tracking.
inwardly+ (paid subscription): Unlimited entries, AI-personalized prompts, weekly reflection summaries, pattern detection, monthly emotional trend reports, and voice-to-text journaling.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the App at any time with reasonable notice.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
The App is currently available in the United States. We make no representation that the App is appropriate or available in other locations.
4. Account Registration
To use the App, you must create an account with a valid email address. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Notifying us immediately at support@goinwardly.app if you suspect unauthorized access
We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that have been inactive for more than 24 months.
5. Subscriptions and Billing
inwardly+ is a subscription service billed through the Apple App Store. By subscribing, you agree to the following:
Pricing: Subscriptions are available monthly ($9.99/month) or annually ($79.99/year). Prices are in USD and subject to change with notice.
Free trial: New subscribers may be eligible for a 7-day free trial of inwardly+. Trials are provided at Apple's discretion and may not be available if you have previously subscribed.
Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Your Apple ID will be charged upon confirmation of purchase.
Cancellation: You may cancel at any time through your Apple ID settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial periods.
Refunds: All refund requests must be directed to Apple. We do not issue refunds directly.
Subscription management is handled by RevenueCat and Apple's App Store. We do not store your payment information.
6. Your Content
You retain full ownership of all journal entries and other content you create in the App ("Your Content"). By using the App, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit Your Content solely for the purpose of operating the App and providing you with its features.
This license is:
- Non-exclusive — you may use your content however you choose
- Revocable — it ends when you delete your account
- Non-transferable — we will not share your content with third parties except as described in our Privacy Policy
We do not use Your Content to train AI models. We do not claim any ownership rights over Your Content.
You are solely responsible for Your Content. You agree not to use the App for any unlawful purpose.
7. AI Features
inwardly+ subscribers have access to AI-powered features powered by Anthropic's Claude API. These features analyze patterns in your recent journal entries to generate insights, prompts, and summaries.
AI-generated insights are for personal reflection purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, medical advice, or crisis services.

We make no warranty that AI-generated insights are accurate, complete, or appropriate for your situation. You use AI features at your own discretion.
8. Not a Medical or Therapeutic Service
inwardly is a journaling and personal reflection tool. It is not a medical device, mental health treatment, therapy service, or crisis intervention service.
The AI features in the App provide general personal reflection prompts and pattern observations. Nothing in the App constitutes professional advice of any kind, including but not limited to medical, psychological, therapeutic, or legal advice.
Always seek the advice of a qualified professional for any concerns about your mental or physical health.
9. Data and Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Key points:
- Your journal entries are encrypted on-device before storage
- We cannot read your journal entries
- We never use your writing to train AI models
- You can export your data at any time
- You can request deletion of your account and data at any time

10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App or its infrastructure
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Use automated tools to access the App
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Interfere with or disrupt the App or its servers
We reserve the right to terminate your access to the App for violation of these rules.
11. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, features, and all content we create (excluding Your Content), is owned by Inwardly - Daily Journal LLC and protected by intellectual property laws.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial purposes. This license does not include the right to sublicense, sell, or copy the App.
"inwardly" and the inwardly logo are trademarks of inwardly. You may not use our trademarks without our prior written consent.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Defects will be corrected
- The App or its servers are free of viruses or harmful components
- AI-generated insights will be accurate or suitable for your needs
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
14. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the American Arbitration Association's Consumer Arbitration Rules, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.
You waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits to the extent permitted by law.
15. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the App before the effective date.
